Our second laneway home, designed in conjunction with and to complement the new home on the same property. The steeply sloping site provided a unique opportunity to reconsider the prescribed zoning for secondary housing on a 33' lot. The "upper" level is accessed at the level of the lane, and the "main" level is at the garden level of the primary residence. Carefully considered windows provide an abundance of natural light while protecting the privacy of both dwellings. The resulting form has the feel of a minimalist pavilion, more than the craftsman style normally associated with laneway homes in Vancouver.
